Join a leading research group focused on understanding how climate, ecosystems, and geology interact to influence carbon movement in the deep critical zone. Work within the SNSF-funded RESPIRE project to help uncover the mysteries of terrestrial carbon cycles using advanced field and laboratory methods.

• Carry out fieldwork at long-term forest ecosystem research sites across Switzerland
• Install and maintain monitoring and sampling infrastructure to track environmental and geochemical signals in deep soil and at the groundwater transition
• Measure carbon fluxes in fluid and gas phases using stable isotope and radiocarbon techniques
• Combine field measurements with near real-time monitoring and climate data from research sites
• Contribute to establishing the first comprehensive terrestrial subsurface carbon budget

• Master’s degree in environmental science, soil science, biogeochemistry, or a related field
• Strong communication skills and self-motivation
• Aptitude for field research and strong quantitative skills
• Commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary research
• Coding experience and familiarity with statistical software (such as R) are an advantage
• Good English writing and speaking skills
