Join a team that uses innovative sustainability assessment methods and emerging food system approaches to tackle key challenges in food science and society, such as the protein transition and food security. This project aims to develop and apply sustainability assessment tools to help transform global food systems, focusing on improvement opportunities in value chains across different regions. You will work closely with other research groups in an interdisciplinary setting.

  • Assess the current status and future scenarios of global food systems sustainability, covering nutrition, environmental, economic, and social aspects
  • Develop and apply sustainability assessment methods to identify improvement potentials in key value chains
  • Integrate future projections to support transformations in food systems
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary research teams
  • Mentor BSc and MSc students as part of your work

Was du mitbringst

  • Master's degree in Sustainability Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Data/Computer Sciences, Bioscience Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills
  • Strong academic background, writing skills, and self-motivation
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis, computer programming, and handling big data
  • Experience in quantitative sustainability assessment such as life cycle assessment (essential)
  • Experience with mathematical modelling of environmental systems and planetary boundaries (a plus)
  • Documented work in food system sustainability, bioeconomy, LCA/LCSA, planetary boundaries, or data science programming (Python, R) (a strong plus)
  • Curiosity, openness to new ideas, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Interest in advancing sustainability science in food systems
  • Experience or strong interest in innovative food technologies and novel protein or micronutrient sources, such as single-cell proteins (including microalgae) and plant-based ingredients (a strong advantage)
