Join a pioneering research project focused on developing advanced micromachined platforms for minimally invasive and localized biofluid sampling. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team at ETH Zürich, working at the intersection of engineering, health, and technology within the Horizon Europe ENDOTRAIN network.

Deine Aufgaben

  • Work full-time on the development of microfabricated systems (such as microneedles, implantables, and microfluidic devices) for precise spatial sampling of biofluids.
  • Design and fabricate systems that allow direct and continuous sampling and analysis of metabolites, hormones, and other markers.
  • Investigate methods for minimal tissue disruption and high analyte recovery efficiency.
  • Quantify analyte concentration dynamically during different physiological states in mouse models and humans.
  • Develop models for local production, metabolism, and diffusion of analytes between blood, interstitial fluid, and tissue.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary training, workshops, retreats, transferable skills courses, and meetings across Europe as part of the ENDOTRAIN network.
  • Engage in secondments at the University of Bergen (validation of sampling strategy) and University Hospital Zurich (testing of sampler on humans).

Was du mitbringst

  • Master’s degree (MSc or equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering, Physiology, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in translational health technologies.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Ideally, knowledge in microfabrication in cleanrooms, biocompatible materials, and/or implantables.
  • Must not have resided or carried out main activity in Switzerland for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment date.
  • Fulfil eligibility criteria for Swiss-based PhD positions and be willing to participate in training activities across Europe.

Was wir dir bieten

  • Competitive salary according to Swiss National Science Foundation regulations.
  • Full social security coverage in Switzerland.
